I&#8217;m over 10 stone !!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doughnuts, double chocolate cookies, malt loaf,\u00a0 bagels, toasted tea cakes, French loaves, fish &amp; chips, pizza and chips, Snickers, etc, etc\u00a0 alongside my &#8216;healthy&#8217; my name.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two days off, no running or cycling either!\u00a0 Fresh and ready for fun on an early morning swim.\u00a0 My Garmin recorded as I swam my name !<\/p>\n<p>Still trying to work out how to dot the \u2018i\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday 5th July<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>6:00:00. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a010 miles<\/p>\n<p>Sunrise SUP across the bay for two hours in the mist and the sea like a pill pond.<\/p>\n<p>A few ripples, but little or now wind when I returned to swim at 1100. \u00a0 Ideal conditions. \u00a0Feet still went numb, but eventually came back to life and the numbness didn\u2019t return. \u00a0Felt as strong at the end, and even tried to dot an \u2018i\u2019, but was totally unsuccessful. \u00a0 Only down side, my shoulders did ache a bit, will they hold up for 15+ hours?<\/p>\n<p><strong>8th-21st July &#8211; 15 mins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindaashmore.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_0254-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-384 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lindaashmore.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_0254-2-300x122.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lindaashmore.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_0254-2-300x122.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lindaashmore.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_0254-2.jpg 613w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Evening swim in Coldingham Bay to put my toe in the water!\u00a0 I always swim when I go to St Abbs, but have never swam for more than 20 minutes and usually come out cold needing a hot bath to recover.\u00a0 I entered the water, and welcomed the cold on my body, mind and flesh were both prepared for it, and welcomed it.\u00a0 So powerful is the mind.\u00a0 Just fifteen minutes but not even a shiver!<\/p>\n<p><strong>9th July &#8211; two and a half miles.\u00a0 Something I had been promising myself to do for years, but too scared to attempt &#8211; found it relatively easy.\u00a0 Admittedly I chose a flood tide to have a little help, but the cold, out in the deep blue, dark shadows below and rough water as we approach Eyemouth didn&#8217;t phase me at all.\u00a0 Had lots of warm clothing for when I got out &#8211; if I could get out &#8211; forgot, no fins and a little boat with no ladder &#8211; wasn&#8217;t easy.\u00a0 However, I was slightly chilled but not &#8216;cold&#8217;.\u00a0 Amazing photo from Jim Greenfield, he could read my Garmin at 50 metres.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13th July &#8211;\u00a0 38mins<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; Swim back and forth in Coldingham Bay, really not big enough &#8211; we are so lucky in Weymouth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15th July -45 mins<\/strong> &#8211; Coldingham Bay again, saw some jelly fish trails in the water and got stung, dived to the left nearly headlong into a Lions Main.\u00a0 Strong nettle sting that lasts about 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17th July &#8211; 1hour 5 mins<\/strong> &#8211; St Abbs Harbour round to Petticowickick.\u00a0 Passed a couple of kayakers who couldn&#8217;t get round St Abbs head against the pounding sea.\u00a0 I missed nearly every other breath and my right arm kept &#8216;catching a crab&#8217;, but I made it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>19th July &#8211; I had intended to do 10 hours, but the demons were playing me up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why am I putting myself through this?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do I really need to do 10 hours, would another 6 do?\u00a0 Should I keep going &#8211; why should I keep going &#8211; will I be able to keep going in the Channel?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ideal conditions, no reason to stop, but stop I did.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Mason, swim coach, asked how my training was going, and suggested a &#8216;back to back&#8217; swim on 4 hours the next day.\u00a0 \u00a0Felt I &#8216;ought&#8217;, but not sure I &#8216;would&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>24th July 4 hours<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Husband not available for feeds in the morning so set of in the afternoon.\u00a0 Glad I did, steady pace, no angst, just got on with it &#8211; felt much more confident.<\/p>\n<p>Sigh of relief &#8211; I think I&#8217;ve done all that I can.\u00a0 I keep remembering that 90+ year old interviewed at the London Marathon when she couldn&#8217;t finish.\u00a0 What did she say?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll just have to train harder next year so that I can finish.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And finish she did.<\/p>\n<p>A few shorter swims, and preparation for the BIG DAY.<\/p>\n<p>Ten and a half stone &#8211; same as I managed last time round &#8211; thought I must be at least eleven after gorging myself for two weeks at St Abbs &#8211; but helas &#8211; not.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eureka &#8211; I&#8217;m over 10 stone !!
